Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address both parts of the visual data by mentioning the pie chart showing categories of library users and the table illustrating satisfaction levels. An overview is provided at the beginning, noting that full-time undergraduates hold the majority percentage. However, the response contains several inaccuracies and omissions in reporting the data. For instance, the text claims that users are not satisfied with the availability of journals with 20%, which is misread or incorrectly stated as the highest proportion of dissatisfaction, whereas opening hours and helpfulness of staff had 0% dissatisfaction. Furthermore, spelling errors like 'udegraguates' and basic phrasing limit the depth of reporting. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of precision and somewhat fragmented support keeps the response at a Band 5.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is divided into two short paragraphs, attempting to separate the overview/pie chart and the table. However, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Transitions between sentences are often mechanical or missing, such as abruptly shifting from user categories to satisfaction metrics. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate ('In the table users are very satisfied...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is weak. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'other 31% belongs to part-time postgraduate, distance learner and academic staff users' without clear relational markers. Overall, the organizational structure is basic, aligning closely with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms such as 'users', 'highest', and 'amount'. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'shows that the outcome' (grammatical slip affecting lexical flow), 'udegraguates' (misspelling of undergraduates), 'availavility' (misspelling of availability), and 'porpotion' (misspelling of proportion). While the student attempts to use some task-specific vocabulary like 'postgraduate', 'satisfaction', and 'percentage', the frequency of lexical errors and restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher band. This performance is characteristic of Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences frequently contain errors or awkward phrasing, such as 'The provided charts shows that the outcome of a survey...'. Grammatical accuracy is low, with frequent errors including subject-verb agreement issues ('full time undergraduate hold'), missing articles ('in availavility of journals'), and capitalization/punctuation omissions (starting sentences without capital letters like 'overall it can be noticed'). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, matching the profile for Band 5.0 where frequent errors persist.
