Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the table. An effective overview is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting the dominant user groups and the general trends in satisfaction. Key figures are accurately cited, such as full-time undergraduates accounting for 44% and staff helpfulness reaching 95% 'very satisfied'. Comparisons are made appropriately between high-satisfaction areas like opening hours and lower-satisfaction areas like journals and wi-fi. The response fully satisfies the requirements of Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is logically organised with a clear progression from an introduction and overview to detailed body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately, separating the pie chart data from the table data. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well ('Overall', 'In addition', 'In contrast', 'However'), though there are occasional minor slip-ups in referencing and sentence flow. The logical structure allows the reader to follow the comparisons smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate clearly and with some precision. Less common items such as 'proportion', 'constitute', 'comprise', and 'enthusiasm' are used effectively. There are a few spelling and lexical errors, such as 'illustrates' instead of 'illustrate' in the first sentence, 'libraray' (spelling error), and 'particiularly' (spelling error). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary used is appropriate for an academic task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses, participial phrases, and coordinate clauses effectively. There are several error-free sentences, demonstrating good control of grammar. However, a few grammatical lapses occur, notably a subject-verb agreement error in the opening sentence ('The pie chart and table illustrates') and a missing verb or preposition in 'distance learning students 8%'. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, and control is generally good.
