Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
First, it is important to note that the response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, as it contains only 112 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. Regarding content, the response only partially addresses the prompt. While it attempts to mention some categories of library users, such as full-time undergraduates at 44% and academic staff at 7%, it completely omits the satisfaction survey data from the table regarding opening hours, staff helpfulness, books, journals, and wi-fi. Furthermore, the overview and summaries are heavily distorted by inaccurate expressions and a lack of clear data reporting, making it difficult to fully understand the visual information provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates some basic organization, including an attempt at an introduction and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the inappropriate transitional phrases 'Although, it is consequent that' and 'To ilustrate that'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, resulting in a disjointed structure. The relationships between sentences are not always clear, and referencing within the text often confuses the reader rather than guiding them through the data logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. For instance, the student uses 'condicts' instead of 'depicts' or 'illustrates', and misspells 'ilustrate'. Phrases like 'books readers in library' and 'partition in library member' are unnatural and demonstrate a limited range of lexical items suitable for academic writing. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise vocabulary and collocations related to data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and flawed attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'the major of library users are' (instead of 'the majority'), 'the full-time postgraduate and part-time postgraduate are probably approximately' (subject-verb agreement and phrasing issues), and incomplete comparative structures like 'between full-time undergraduate to academic staff'. These errors can cause difficulty and confusion for the reader, though the core meaning of some basic points remains partially accessible.
