Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt by summarizing both the pie chart and the table, but the execution remains partial. While main features such as the dominant group of full-time undergraduates at 44% and the high satisfaction rate for staff helpfulness at 95% are identified, some of the data reporting is inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the discussion of the 'fairly satisfied' category contains garbled information, stating that 'availability of books and helpfullness of staff had 5 % satiffaction', which misinterprets the figures in the table where 5% actually refers to staff helpfulness under 'not satisfied' or 'fairly satisfied' mixes. Ideas are limited and sometimes under-developed, preventing a clearer presentation of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows an attempt at organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief overview. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, as seen with the multiple uses of 'Overall' and 'meanwhile'. Paragraphing is present, but grouping related ideas within paragraphs is faulty; for example, mixing various satisfaction levels and categories together without a coherent structure makes the text harder to follow. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leaving the reader to puzzle out which data set is being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic vocabulary and direct repetition of terms from the prompt, such as 'library users', 'satisfaction', and 'categories'. There are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'Morover', 'helpfullness', 'Post-graduate', 'fullt-time', and 'satiffaction', as well as word choice and collocation inaccuracies like 'category in very satisfied'. These lexical limitations and errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional, faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include missing articles ('number of full-time undergraduates users were the highest to use library'), incorrect prepositions ('in very satisfied category'), and awkward phrasing resulting from poor subject-verb agreement or word order ('Post-graduate fullt-time were 25% users'). Punctuation is also weak, with stray commas and missing full stops impacting readability.
