Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the table, and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identify the dominant group of users (full-time undergraduates at 44%) and the least represented category (academic staff at 7%), alongside key details about user satisfaction. However, some aspects of your overview and body paragraphs are slightly under-developed or general, such as stating that journals had the 'highest number of users' who were not satisfied, when the chart actually shows percentages. Additionally, the overview contains a slight imprecision regarding overall happiness. Despite these minor limitations, the main trends and data points are adequately selected and reported to fulfill the basic requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the pie chart and the table. You use cohesive devices to link ideas, such as 'Overall', 'First', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or repetitive, particularly with the frequent use of 'On the other hand' to introduce new points where contrast is not necessarily required. Referencing is generally clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the comparison of the two visual sources.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main features of the charts. You attempt less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'considerable', 'moderate', and 'dominant'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include 'distinct category of library users' instead of 'categories', 'percentage of user happiness of using library' instead of 'user satisfaction levels', 'individuals belongings' instead of 'belonging', and 'availability of journals' being linked incorrectly to the number of users. Spelling is generally acceptable, but these lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your writing. There are instances of well-structured sentences, but grammatical errors occur regularly. Noticeable errors include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'the percentage of full-time undergraduates were dominates' and 'full-time undergraduate students was dominates', misuse of passive voice and active forms ('individuals who learns all type of courses'), and preposition or article inaccuracies ('on lowest percentage', 'in library opening hours'). Punctuation and word forms within grammatical patterns also show some lapses. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout the response.
