Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart and the comparison table demonstrates the outcomes of a survey of library users in a university.

Overall, in the chart, there is a dominant of full-time undergraduate users while the percentage of academic is very little. The satisfaction level is different for all library consumers.

Firstly, there is 44 percent of Full-time undergraduate consumers which covers almost all the chart. These users are dominant over other users and they are fairly satisfied about conveniences library gives to them. Secondly, after these users ,there came Full-time postgraduate library users which covers 25 percent.

Thirdly, after this, the percent of part-time postgraduate library consumers is 16 and they are roughly staisfied about sources in the library. Next to this, there came distance learning users who do not like library enough and these type of library users are only 8 percent in a university. At last, the percent of academic staff who uses library is 7 percent because they are well graduated that they know almost everything about their lessons.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only partially addresses the task requirements. While the pie chart data regarding categories of users is mentioned, the table containing information about library user satisfaction is completely omitted from the summary. Furthermore, the selection of main features is inaccurate and lacks objective reporting. For instance, the writer attempts to explain the statistics with unsupported personal assumptions, such as stating that academic staff represent seven percent because 'they are well graduated that they know almost everything about their lessons.' There is no overview of the key trends presented in the table, meaning vital parts of the visual data are ignored, resulting in a minimal and incomplete response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text displays some basic organization with the use of sequence markers such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly', but there is no clear overall progression or logical structure for an academic report. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body of the text is clustered into repetitive lists rather than cohesive analytical paragraphs. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Next to this, there came distance learning users' and 'At last, the percent of academic staff'. Referencing is also weak, with phrases like 'these users' and 'these type of library users' creating repetitive and clunky transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable repetition of words such as 'users', 'consumers', and 'percent'. There are several word choice and collocation errors, as well as spelling mistakes like 'staisfied'. The student attempts less common vocabulary with inaccuracy, such as 'there is a dominant of full-time undergraduate users' instead of 'there is a dominance', and 'conveniences library gives to them' instead of 'facilities provided by the library'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally strain communication and demonstrate a lack of precision when discussing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and repetitive clauses introduced by 'there is' or 'there came'. Attempts at complex sentences are often faulty, featuring frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, prepositions, and article usage. Examples include 'the comparison table demonstrates' (tense agreement issues with the mixed chart), 'fairly satisfied about conveniences' (incorrect preposition), and 'these type of library users' (singular/plural agreement error). These frequent errors persist throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning remains partially decipherable.
