Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart below illustrates the consequences of the library users survey at a higher education institution.
Overall, the survey shows that the library was used by several different groups of university members. In addition, there were noticeable differences in the frequency with which the various categories used the library.

This was followed by [second category], which represented around [figure]%. By contrast, [lowest category] made up the smallest share, at only about [figure]%.
The table also indicates differences in how frequently the library was used. [Category] had the highest proportion of people who visited the library [frequency], whereas [category] recorded the lowest figure. Meanwhile, the percentages for the other groups were relatively similar, ranging between approximately [figure]% and [figure]%.
In terms of overall usage, [main comparison] was considerably higher than [other category]. This suggests that the library was particularly popular among [category], while it was comparatively less frequently used by [category].

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a major weakness in task achievement because it relies heavily on unfilled placeholder templates, such as '[category with the highest percentage]' and '[figure]%', rather than reporting the actual data from the chart and table. While the introduction makes a general attempt to describe the subject matter, the body paragraphs fail to present, summarise, or compare the specific survey results and satisfaction percentages provided in the prompt. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, and the core information required to fulfill the prompt is missing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, body details, and concluding remarks logically. Transitional phrases like 'Overall', 'According to the chart', 'By contrast', and 'Meanwhile' are used to structure the text. However, because the body paragraphs consist largely of template placeholders instead of real information, the progression and referencing within the paragraphs are disrupted, resulting in mechanical and repetitive cohesion that prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The writing shows an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting appropriate academic collocations such as 'higher education institution', 'proportion of library users', and 'comparatively less frequently used'. Although the heavy reliance on placeholder brackets severely limits the actual content displayed, the surrounding vocabulary used in the framework of the essay is natural and appropriate. Minor errors do not impede communication, but the lack of specific data-driven terms prevents a stronger lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over grammatical structures such as subordinate clauses ('while it was comparatively less frequently used by...') and passive constructions ('was illustrated', 'was considered'). There are frequent error-free sentences in the framework of the text, and punctuation is handled well. While the template-heavy nature of the content restricts the range of grammatical structures deployed to report actual data, the existing grammar is accurate and rarely interferes with readability.
