Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially because it presents a mechanical list of data points without providing a clear overview or making meaningful comparisons. While the student attempts to report figures from both the chart and the table, the information is largely a raw retelling of statistics. For instance, the text lists every single percentage for user satisfaction ('In library opening hours very satisfied users are 65%, 35 % are fairly satisfied and zero % are not satisfied category') without highlighting key trends, significant contrasts, or the most prominent features. To reach a higher level, the response needs to select and contrast main trends rather than itemising every figure in a repetitive manner, and it must include a clear overview statement summarising the overarching patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text suffers from a lack of proper paragraphing, presented instead as a single, dense block of text which impedes overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or repetitive, relying heavily on consecutive clauses linked by commas and repetitive phrases such as 'In... are...' or 'and now we see that...'. There is no clear logical organisation separating the two distinct visual datasets (the pie chart proportions and the satisfaction table). To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer needs to divide the response into clear paragraphs—such as an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to each visual source—and use a wider, more natural range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for conveying basic information. The student successfully uses appropriate topic-specific vocabulary such as 'Academic staff', 'undergraduate', 'satisfaction', and 'library opening hours'. However, word choice and collocations are often repetitive and basic, and there are noticeable errors in word form and spelling, such as 'part time post graduate' instead of 'part-time postgraduates', 'journels' instead of 'journals', and 'higher users' instead of 'the largest proportion of users'. To achieve a higher score, the writer should incorporate a wider variety of vocabulary and synonyms to describe data trends, such as 'proportion', 'majority', and 'levels of satisfaction', while eliminating spelling errors and awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structures used are very limited, relying primarily on simple sentences or run-on clauses linked improperly by commas rather than full stops or proper conjunctions (e.g., 'So the topic is about the survey of library users at a university,i can see the different categories of library users.'). There are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization (e.g., lowercase 'i'), subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns (e.g., 'In Helpfulness of staff are 95 % are very satisfied' and 'In availability of journels are 45 %'). Attempts at complex structures are largely absent or faulty. To improve this criterion, the writer must focus on sentence boundaries, punctuation, accurate subject-verb agreement, and incorporating a mix of subordinate clauses and varied sentence structures.
