Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the chart and the table. You successfully identified key data points, such as the highest and lowest categories of library users (full-time undergraduates at 44% and academic staff at 7%) and highlighted key satisfaction levels, such as the staff helpfulness rating of 95% very satisfied. However, some ideas are presented as a simple listing of figures rather than being fully synthesised or compared meaningfully. To reach a higher level, you should extend your analysis by drawing clearer comparisons across categories rather than just stating individual percentages consecutively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and attempts to organise information into logical paragraphs separating the chart data from the table data. However, the progression between sentences can be mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on basic cohesive structures like 'The chart represent' and 'However, the table'. Referencing and logical transitions need to be smoother. To improve coherence, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one without abrupt shifts in focus.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic statistical information using terms such as 'percentage', 'highest', and 'lowest'. You make attempts at less common vocabulary related to data reporting, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'The chart and table illustrates' and 'Last and least reliability of wi-fi'. Some word forms are also slightly imprecise. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but to achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate greater precision and flexibility in your choice of vocabulary and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms and agreement, such as 'The chart and table illustrates' instead of 'illustrate', and missing copula verbs like 'the chart show categories'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also occasionally weak, resulting in fragmented expressions. To move up to the next band, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better command over basic grammatical structures, subject-verb agreement, and clause construction.
