Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to summarise the main features of the chart and table. However, the selection of data is somewhat erratic and incomplete. While the writer correctly identifies the proportions for full-time undergraduates and full-time postgraduates (44% and 25%), other categories are lumped together vaguely, and the data from the satisfaction table is often misinterpreted or inaccurate, such as stating '19% are neither satisfy with books availability' instead of noting the reliability of wi-fi. There is an attempt to provide an overview, but key comparisons are missed or confused, leading to an under-developed response that only partially fulfills the requirements of Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organisation with the use of basic transition signals such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Summarizing all the given facts', but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks logical flow, shifting back and forth between the pie chart data and various rows of the table without a unifying structure. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, and referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in confusing pronoun usage and disjointed sentence connections that disrupt the readability of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical awkwardness include 'assorted' instead of broken down, 'sasiated' instead of satisfied, 'doubious', 'relability', 'Noteably', 'unanamious', and 'occupant'. The writer attempts some less common phrasing, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate spelling and inappropriate collocations, restricting the overall lexical score to a modest level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement ('Most poeple who are using it are', 'Journals' availability are voted'), incorrect prepositions ('satisfied by' instead of with), and awkward passive constructions ('are being unanamious agreed'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect an inadequate control over complex grammatical patterns at this level.
