Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie diagram and table describe the result of a satisfactory survey of a library at a university.
The survey has several responden categories that includes academic staff, full-time undergraduate, full-time post graduate, part-time post graduate, and distance learning or all courses. Most of responden are very satisfied with the helpfulness of staff which reach 95%. Opening hours for library and helpfulness of staff do not have any responden that unsatisfied. In the other hand, for books and journal availability, also reliability of Wi-Fi, still have several responden that unsatisfied with the highest unsatisfied is journal availability with percentage is 20%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by summarising the main features of both the pie chart and the table, noting the highest and lowest proportions of users and highlighting key satisfaction levels such as the 95% rating for staff helpfulness. However, the coverage remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the commentary on dissatisfaction rates lacks full extension, and some data points are described in a basic manner. To reach a higher band, the response would need to provide a more fully developed comparison of all categories and ensure that key trends across the table are analysed with greater depth and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response exhibits some organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs for the categories, and a paragraph for satisfaction levels, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are occasionally inadequate or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on basic conjunctions and connectors like 'In the other hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow between sentences can feel disjointed. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure clearer logical sequencing and more flexible, accurate use of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the comparative data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic information. The student uses appropriate topic-specific vocabulary such as 'academic staff', 'undergraduate', and 'satisfaction'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and word form errors throughout the text, such as 'responden' instead of 'respondents', 'post graduate' instead of 'postgraduate', and 'books availability' instead of 'availability of books'. Furthermore, awkward phrasing such as 'satisfactory survey of a library' rather than 'survey of library users' indicates restricted lexical flexibility. To progress, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range and eliminate recurrent word-formation errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb-object patterns. Attempts at more complex structures are restricted and frequently flawed. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Most of responden are', 'still have several responden that unsatisfied') and prepositions ('percentage is 20%'). These frequent errors can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up to the next band, the writer must demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms and improve grammatical accuracy regarding plurals, articles, and verb agreements.
