Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing both the pie chart regarding library users and the table showing satisfaction levels. Key features are selected, such as the highest proportion of full-time undergraduate students (44%) and the staff helpfulness rating (95%). However, some ideas and details are somewhat under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the statement that 'availability of journals are rated as least satisfaction and wifi reliability is also rated among the dissatisfaction category' misinterprets the data, as the table shows 35% fairly satisfied and 20% not satisfied for journals, and 48% very satisfied for wi-fi, meaning these are not purely dissatisfaction categories. While the main trends are touched upon, more precise reporting and extension of the data points would elevate this section further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division between the two visual sources, moving logically from the pie chart to the table. Information is generally presented in a sequential manner. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Following to the trend' and 'Whereas', although some referencing is slightly mechanical or awkward in phrasing. Paragraphing is employed to separate the two distinct visual data sets, contributing to the overall logical flow. To reach the next band, the transitions between sentences could be made smoother and more natural, avoiding repetitive structural patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the general meaning of the charts with terms like 'percentage', 'categories', 'satisfaction rate', and 'proportion'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'major portion', 'occupied by', and 'top-rated', though there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Following to the trend' instead of 'Following this trend' or 'Following the trend'. Spelling and word choice errors are present ('Availabilty'), but they do not impede communication. A wider variety of precise lexical items and better control over collocations would improve the score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound and relative clauses. There are some grammatical errors in article use, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'that uses library' instead of 'that use the library', 'availability of journals are' instead of 'is', and missing articles before 'library' and 'wifi reliability'. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication. The control of punctuation is generally acceptable. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and ensure greater accuracy in grammatical patterns.
