Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The diagrams illustrate the feedback of a library users at a university. The figures are measured in percentage.
Overall, the library is largely used by full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students whereas the lowest number of users are the academic staff. Regarding the services, most of the users are considerably satified with the assistance from the library staff while the least satisfying reason is the lack of enough journals in the library.
In terms of uses, full-time students are the most common users of the library where 44% of them are undergraduate and 25% are postgraduate. By contrast, other students do not often use the library. Only 16% users are part-time postgraduate students whereas 8% are distant learners which includes all the courses. However, academic staff are comparatively more uncommon than all in the library at only 7%.
Although users are overall satisfied with all the services, 95% of them are very happy with the help from library staff and 65% with the opening hours with 35% are fairly satisfied. However, there is a mixed reviewd regarding the avaialbility of books and journals. Despite 50% and 45% are very happy with the availability of books and journals, respectively, 40% and 35% are fairly satisfied and 10% and 20% are not satisfied with these services. Almost half of the users are not satisfied with the reliability of the wi-fi at 48% whereas 33% is fairly satisfied and 19% ar not satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task by successfully reporting the main features of both the category chart and the satisfaction table, making relevant comparisons throughout. An appropriate overview is provided, highlighting the dominance of full-time students as users and the high satisfaction with staff helpfulness alongside dissatisfaction with journals. Key data points are accurately selected and contrasted, such as the 44% for undergraduates versus 7% for academic staff, and the 95% very satisfied rating for staff helpfulness. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise slightly or misinterpret specific data points in the final paragraph, such as misreporting the wi-fi satisfaction statistics where '48% ... whereas 33% is fairly satisfied and 19% ar not satisfied' actually contradicts the table data (which shows 48% very satisfied, 33% fairly satisfied, and 19% not satisfied). This minor factual misinterpretation prevents the task achievement score from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided sensibly into an introduction, an overview, user categories, and satisfaction survey results. Cohesive devices are used fairly well to signal relationships between ideas, such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', 'However', and 'Despite'. Paragraphing is managed effectively, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the visual data. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional mechanical transitions or slight lapses in cohesion prevent the response from achieving a higher rating. To improve further, the writer could ensure smoother integration of data within sentences to avoid a slightly formulaic listing of percentages in the final body paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating a sufficient range to describe percentages, trends, and user categories with some flexibility. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'largely used', 'comparatively more uncommon', and 'mixed reviewd'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'satified' instead of 'satisfied', 'reviewd' instead of 'reviews', 'avaialbility' instead of 'availability', and the awkward phrasing 'comparatively more uncommon than all'. These lexical errors and occasional awkward collocations do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to this level, as greater precision and error-free spelling are required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and concessive clauses (e.g., 'where 44% of them are undergraduate', 'Despite 50% and 45% are very happy'). There are some error-free sentences, showing decent control over basic grammar. However, several grammatical errors persist, particularly in prepositions and clause structures, such as 'feedback of a library users' (article/plural mismatch), 'distant learners which includes' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Despite 50% and 45% are very happy' (faulty subordinate clause structure). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but these recurrent grammatical slips across complex sentences mean the writing sits comfortably within this band.
