Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially, placing it at this level because the information reported is limited and contains significant inaccuracies. While the writer attempts to summarise both the pie chart and the table, the interpretation of the data is flawed in places, such as confusing library user satisfaction categories with courses or career opportunities (e.g., mentioning 'career opputunity' which is not present in the prompt). The main features of the pie chart are identified, such as full-time undergraduates accounting for the highest percentage at 44%, but the overall overview lacks clarity and precision. To improve, the response needs to more accurately report the data provided without introducing irrelevant outside information and ensure all key trends are clearly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation in the response, with paragraphs dedicated to the introduction, the pie chart, and the table respectively, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inappropriately, such as repetitive transitions and abrupt shifts between ideas (e.g., 'Whereas helpful of staff has highest satisifaction...'). Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult to follow the logical development of ideas. To achieve a higher level, the writer must ensure that sentences and paragraphs are linked more smoothly using a wider range of cohesive devices, and that each section flows logically from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'statisfaction', 'satisifaction', 'satifaction', 'instaed', 'staisfaction', 'nt', and 'opputunity', along with awkward word choices and collocations like 'different categories admission' and 'helpful of staff'. The student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to surveys and percentages, but the high density of lexical errors constrains the precision of the response. To progress, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, improving word form control, and practicing correct spelling for common academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in grammar. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement and missing verbs, such as 'courses that available', 'Full time undergraduate students has highest percentage', and 'those who fairly satisfied recieved less percentage'. Preposition and article errors are also present throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and mean that error-free sentences are scarce. To improve, the writer needs to focus on fundamental grammatical accuracy, ensuring complete sentence structures with correct verb forms and prepositions.
