Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully addressed all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the pie chart and the table. Your overview clearly highlighted the most significant trends, noting that full-time undergraduates formed the largest user group while academic staff were the least active, and contrasted staff helpfulness ratings with journal availability. You made relevant comparisons across the user categories, correctly citing the 25% figure for full-time postgraduates and the 44% figure for undergraduates, and summarized satisfaction metrics adequately. To push further into higher bands, your supporting details could have been slightly more polished, ensuring every minor statistical comparison is smoothly integrated without over-generalising certain trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into logical paragraphs, separating the introduction, overview, user categories, and satisfaction data. You successfully utilised cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data, employing transition words such as 'Overall', 'Whereas', and 'In contrast' to link your points. However, progression is occasionally slightly mechanical due to repetitive sentence openings and minor referencing issues. Moving towards a higher band would require more seamless and varied cohesive transitions between sentences, as well as smoother integration of data points within your paragraphs to avoid a disjointed feel.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You displayed an adequate vocabulary range to accomplish the task, attempting less common items and descriptive phrasing such as 'proportion', 'dominated', and 'satisfaction'. However, your writing contains numerous spelling and word-form errors that detract from precision, such as 'diferrent', 'catergories', 'libarary', 'psotgraduate', 'constributed', and 'undergraduat'. Additionally, certain collocations and word choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as 'non satisfaction is not in count' and 'faced negativity'. To reach a higher band, you must improve spelling accuracy and employ more precise, sophisticated lexical items consistently without distracting slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You used a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating comparative and subordinate structures such as 'While the table show the satisfied library users percentage' and 'full time undergraduate are the largest proportion'. However, your writing features frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'table show', 'helpfulness staff stands out', '45% are satisfied'), missing articles, and awkward prepositional usage ('regard with'). These errors require some effort to decode but rarely completely impede communication. Securing a higher band requires a wider variety of error-free complex structures and much stronger control over basic grammatical agreements and punctuation.
