Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the pie chart and the table, and makes relevant comparisons. You clearly identified that full-time undergraduates formed the largest group (44%) and academic staff the smallest (7%). You also accurately summarised the satisfaction levels, noting that staff helpfulness received the highest positive feedback (95% very satisfied) while journal availability recorded the lowest satisfaction. However, some aspects of the data are slightly under-developed; for instance, you omitted the Wi-Fi reliability category from the table entirely. To reach a higher band, you should ensure all key data sets provided in the prompt are touched upon or synthesised effectively rather than leaving out an entire row of data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

Your response demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The essay is appropriately divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with a solid introduction, moving to an overall summary of main trends, and then providing detailed body paragraphs for the chart and table data respectively. You use cohesive devices adequately to guide the reader, such as 'Looking first at', 'This was followed by', and 'Turning to library user satisfaction'. Referencing is generally clear, and information flows smoothly from one point to the next. To achieve the highest bands, you could make cohesive devices even more sophisticated and seamless, avoiding slightly formulaic transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'proportions', 'categories', 'accounted for', and 'satisfaction levels'. You attempt some less common vocabulary, though this is occasionally marred by spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'od library' instead of 'of the library', 'ascepts' instead of 'aspects', 'consituated' instead of 'constituted', and 'recived' instead of 'received'. While these minor lexical slips do not impede communication, they hold your score back from a higher band. To improve, ensure you check your spelling carefully and use precise word forms and collocations consistently throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

Your response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating decent control over your sentence structures. You successfully use complex clauses, such as 'while tables provides information' (though note the subject-verb agreement slip 'tables provides') and 'who accounted for 25%'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('largest proportion of library user' instead of 'users') and minor agreement issues, but these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of your sentences remain clear. To move further up the band scale, you need to increase the frequency of completely error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over singular and plural noun agreements.
