Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response covers all parts of the task by successfully outlining the main features of the pie chart and the table. You present a clear overview in your second paragraph, noting that full-time undergraduates dominated user categories while academic staff were the fewest, and that most users were very satisfied overall. You select and report key data points, such as the 44% figure for undergraduates and the high satisfaction rates for staff helpfulness and opening hours. However, some areas remain slightly under-developed or mechanically listed rather than fully integrated into meaningful comparisons—for instance, detailing percentages like 16% and 8% sequentially without deeply contrasting them. To reach a higher level, you need to extend your supporting details by drawing sharper, more analytical comparisons across the datasets rather than merely recounting individual figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the chart to the table. You make good use of paragraphing to separate your introduction, overview, pie chart details, and table details. You employ various cohesive devices to guide the reader, such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'In contrast'. However, cohesion occasionally feels slightly mechanical, and referencing can be tightened—for example, writing 'being the category with highest library user' creates an awkward phrasal flow rather than seamless integration. To achieve a higher band, you would need to demonstrate more flexible and sophisticated use of cohesive devices and referencing, ensuring that every transition between sentences and paragraphs feels completely natural and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You display an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'categories', 'satisfaction', 'proportion', and 'availability'. You attempt less common vocabulary items such as 'respectively' and 'majority', which shows a willingness to expand your lexical range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'full-time undergraduate' (which should be pluralised as 'undergraduates') and 'every library users were satisfied' (where 'every' should be 'all'). These minor lexical and collocation errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from achieving a higher score. To improve, focus on precision in word forms and plurals, and incorporate a wider variety of sophisticated synonyms to describe statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your response, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate constructions such as participial phrases ('being the category with highest library user'). You maintain good control over tense usage when describing the survey results. There are some grammar errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('every library users were') and missing articles ('with highest library user'). Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your points easily. To reach the next band, you should aim to produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine your mastery of articles and pluralisation within grammatical patterns.
