Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words by stopping at 74 words. While the student attempts to summarise the charts by identifying the highest and lowest categories ('full-time undergraduate account for highest' and 'academic staff has lowest proportion'), the reporting is extremely limited and lacks a complete overview. Key data points from the table, such as the percentages for library opening hours or helpfulness of staff, are omitted or described very vaguely, resulting in an inadequate response that barely scratches the surface of the visual data provided.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Information and ideas are presented with a basic overall structure, using some simple linking expressions such as 'Overall' and 'In table side'. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by a lack of cohesive devices and mechanical referencing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the sentences do not flow logically from one point to the next. The abrupt transitions between the pie chart data and the table data make it difficult for the reader to follow a clear line of argument or comparison throughout the short text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range appropriate for this level. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling 'refects' instead of 'reflects', writing 'user' instead of the plural 'users', and awkward phrasing like 'In table side'. More precise terms and better collocations are needed to discuss statistical data effectively. While the meaning is occasionally communicated, the basic choice of words and spelling inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent grammatical errors. There are notable issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'full-time undergraduate account for highest' (should be 'undergraduates account for the highest proportion') and 'academic staff has lowest proportion'. Additionally, punctuation and preposition use are faulty. These frequent errors distract the reader and reflect a weak control of basic grammatical rules.
