Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response only minimally addresses the task because it is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence after only eighty-four words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of one hundred and fifty words. While the writer attempts an overview and mentions a few main features, such as the highest category of library users being full-time undergraduates and the highest satisfaction relating to the helpfulness of staff, the severe lack of development and missing comparisons mean the prompt is only partially satisfied. To reach higher bands, the writer must fully develop the response by selecting and reporting all key trends from both the chart and the table while meeting the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays some basic organization with an introductory sentence and an overall summary statement. However, there is no clear overall progression or body paragraph structure because the response terminates abruptly in the middle of a sentence. Basic cohesive devices such as 'whereas' and 'moreover' are used to link initial ideas, but referencing and paragraphing remain underdeveloped due to the extreme brevity of the text. To improve, the writer needs to structure the essay logically into distinct paragraphs with clear progression and a fuller range of cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic summary, featuring appropriate terms such as 'percentage distribution', 'categories', and 'satisfaction'. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'Moverover' instead of 'Moreover' and 'statisfied' instead of 'satisfied', along with slightly awkward phrasing like 'with academic staff being the least library users'. The lexical range remains somewhat limited and repetitive. To achieve a higher band, the student should incorporate a wider variety of less common academic vocabulary with accurate spelling and precise collocations to describe statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing introductory dependent clauses such as 'While the pie chart illustrates...'. There are some correct grammatical structures, but errors emerge in preposition use, such as saying 'satisfied by' instead of 'satisfied with', alongside punctuation slips and an unfinished final sentence. Because the response is so short, the grammatical range is inherently constrained. To progress further, the writer must produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and maintain strict control over grammatical patterns and prepositions when reporting statistical information.
