Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main features of both the pie chart and the table, providing an overview and selecting key data such as the proportions of users and satisfaction rates. However, the summary lacks sufficient development and detail, failing to cover all available figures fully. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum word length requirement, finishing at only 124 words. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count exceeds the 150-word minimum and provide a more fully developed, comprehensive overview that expands upon the significant trends and data points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical arrangement in the response, moving from an introduction to the charts, through user categories, and finally to satisfaction levels. However, the overall progression is somewhat disjointed, and paragraphing is inadequate, with short, underdeveloped paragraphs that hinder the flow of ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer should use clearer linking phrases to connect sentences and paragraphs, organise ideas into logically grouped, distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences, and ensure referencing is precise throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing statistical data, such as proportions, categories, and percentages. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including "statisfied", "journel", "dissatified", "satistied", and "acadamic", which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There is also reliance on repetitive vocabulary. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary accurately, paying closer attention to correct spelling, and ensuring precise word choices when discussing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple statements with frequent missing punctuation, such as missing capital letters at the beginnings of sentences and omitted full stops. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ("biggest followed by full time post graduate"), incorrect prepositions ("accounted at"), and run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation. These errors occur across basic and attempted complex structures and can cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must work on basic sentence boundary punctuation, article usage, and prepositional patterns while incorporating error-free complex structures.
