Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by summarising the main features of both the chart and the table, but the coverage is partial and contains some inaccuracies. For instance, the overview states that people like the facility of staff members and opening hours, which is too brief and lacks a clear summary of the broader trends. Furthermore, some data points are misreported or awkwardly handled, such as the confusion regarding postgraduate categories and the listing of percentages without clear labels in the final paragraph. To reach a higher band, you need to provide a more fully developed overview and ensure all reported data accurately reflects the visual information without missing key comparative details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with attempts to separate the chart data from the table data into distinct paragraphs. However, the progression is sometimes unclear or mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally awkward, as seen in transitions like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'Regarding, library hours satisfaction'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is very short and structurally disconnected from the rest of the text. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that your sentences flow logically from one idea to the next without abrupt shifts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate to convey the basic information, demonstrating an attempt to discuss percentages and categories. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors that affect precision, such as 'Similarily' instead of 'similarly', 'faurly' instead of 'fairly', and awkward phrasing like 'people like the facility of staff members'. Less common lexical items are attempted, but often with noticeable inaccuracies. To improve your lexical score, focus on expanding your range of reporting verbs and descriptive adjectives, and pay closer attention to standard collocations and correct spelling when discussing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently contain errors. There are frequent mistakes in grammar, such as missing prepositions or incorrect subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the majority of learners came to library are', 'visitors consist the undergraduate students', 'postgraduate students comprised of'). Punctuation and article use also show frequent lapses, such as missing commas and incorrect determiners. To move to a higher band, you must increase your control over basic grammatical structures, reduce the frequency of errors in simple and complex sentences alike, and ensure accurate use of verb forms and prepositions.
