Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover both parts of the prompt by looking at the categories of library users and the satisfaction survey results. However, the data is not always reported accurately according to the visual source. For example, the student states that 'full time postgraduate recorded the highest proportion in library users', whereas the chart clearly shows that full-time undergraduates formed the largest group at 44%, with postgraduates at 25%. Additionally, some key figures are mixed up or poorly integrated, such as stating that 'full time undergraduate recorded the highest proportion' and then immediately mentioning academic staff incorrectly as the 'lowest amount'. The overview attempts to capture the main trends, but the inaccuracies in reporting specific data and comparisons keep the response at a partial level of task completion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text is divided into paragraphs, which provides some structural organisation, but the overall progression of ideas lacks clear logical flow. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'In detail,' and 'In camparison,', which are awkwardly placed. Furthermore, referencing and transitional phrases between sentences can be repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'In case of' or 'In the case of satisfaction'. Paragraphing separates the charts logically, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is occasionally faulty, making it harder for the reader to follow the exact relationships between the data points presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'jouranals', 'cambination', 'availbility', and 'Relibility'. The student also uses awkward phrasing such as 'library accessers' instead of library users, and 'unsatisfied review' instead of negative feedback or dissatisfaction ratings. While there are attempts to use less common vocabulary related to data reporting (such as 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'figure'), the high frequency of lexical slips restricts the effectiveness of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic descriptive patterns. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, and there are frequent errors in grammar, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples of grammatical issues include 'survey conducted of library users' (missing article/preposition structure), 'users of library not recorded' (missing auxiliary verb and article), 'not any unsatisfied recored' (faulty negation and spelling), and '20 percent people are not satisfied' (tense shift). Punctuation errors, such as missing commas or erratic spacing around punctuation marks, also persist throughout the text and cause occasional reading difficulty.
