Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement, as it is 22 words short of the 150-word minimum, with 23 words copied directly from the prompt. While the candidate attempts to summarize the data by mentioning the pie chart categories and the survey satisfaction percentages, the task is only partially addressed. The overview is weak and repetitive, containing awkward phrasing such as 'different categories of library users where major 44% are used by full-time undergraduate.' Furthermore, some of the data reporting is confused or inaccurate, such as stating that '95% are more satisfied from helpfulness of staff that the results of a survey'. To move up, the writer needs to provide a fully developed overview without lifting language directly from the prompt, ensure all key features are accurately reported, and write well over the word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The organization of the response shows some basic grouping of ideas, separating the pie chart data from the satisfaction table, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with separate paragraphs for the introduction, categories, and satisfaction ratings, but the sentences lack logical flow and connectivity. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or misused, as seen in awkward transitions like 'Looking at first' and 'While, 50% are satisfiied'. Referencing is also unclear in places, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of information. To achieve a higher band, the writer must use cohesive devices more accurately, ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs, and structure the response with a logical sequence of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic words and repeats terms from the prompt, such as 'categories of library users' and 'survey of library users at a university'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes like 'satisfiied' and awkward word choices and collocations, such as saying users are 'satisfied for operating hours' or 'satisfied from helpfulness'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the precise meaning. To improve lexical resource, the student should incorporate a wider range of less common vocabulary relating to data reporting, ensure correct word forms and prepositions, and eliminate spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structures used are very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Library user are satisfied', incorrect prepositions such as 'satisfied from' instead of 'satisfied with', and awkward phrasing like 'where major 44% are used'. These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and cause difficulty in understanding. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate a better mix of complex sentence structures, improve control over basic grammar rules such as singular and plural noun agreement, and reduce the frequency of structural errors.
