Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt by looking at the pie chart regarding library users and the table showing satisfaction levels. However, the coverage remains limited and superficial. For example, while the writer notes that full-time undergraduates make up the highest percentage (44%), other categories like academic staff (7%) and distance learners (8%) are only vaguely mentioned. Similarly, the data from the satisfaction table is reported in a fragmented way, with several figures incorrectly framed, such as stating that the percentage of those very satisfied with helpfulness 'increased by 95%' rather than reporting it as an absolute percentage. The overview is weak, consisting of disconnected sentences rather than a clear summary of main trends, which places the response at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates some overall organisation, but there is no clear progression of ideas throughout the response. Information from the visual aids is jumbled across multiple short, disjointed paragraphs rather than being grouped logically by chart type or theme. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inappropriately, such as the abrupt transition 'According to given information given by table overall', which creates a repetitive and awkward flow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different satisfaction categories without referring back to the prompt.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'catagories', 'cleared', 'acadamic', 'satisfed', 'helpfullness', 'avalibaility', and 'avalibilty'. Word choices are basic and occasionally unnatural, for instance, using 'increased by 95%' instead of 'stood at 95%'. While the writer attempts some less common terms related to the visual data, the high density of spelling errors and inaccurate word choices causes noticeable strain for the reader and restricts the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. Attempts at more complex constructions are often faulty, such as missing articles ('use library most', 'provided at library') and incorrect prepositional phrases. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and basic sentence formulation, such as 'Highest percentage of undergraduates who use library most' lacking a main verb. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader in fully grasping the intended meaning.
