Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover both the pie chart and the table regarding library users and satisfaction levels. However, the information is only partially addressed, and the presentation of data contains inaccuracies, such as misreporting the part-time postgraduate figure as 18% instead of 16%, and stating that academic staff and distance learners were 8% to 7% when they are separate categories. The overview is very basic and lacks a clear summary of the main trends. To reach the next level, the writer needs to select and report the main features more accurately and provide a clearer, more developed overview of the visual data without mechanical listing of every single figure.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text is organized into paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs for the chart and table, and a brief conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical links between ideas feel mechanical. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, such as "Then", "Later", and "On the other hand", which do not always logically connect the data points being discussed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between categories and satisfaction percentages. To improve, the writer should ensure smoother transitions between sentences and structure paragraphs so that related data points are grouped logically together with clearer signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, with frequent spelling mistakes and word choice errors, such as "consiqunce" instead of consequence, "under-graduaten", "indiviual", "univeristy", "helplfullness", and "avalibilty". The range of vocabulary is barely adequate for the task, and these noticeable errors in spelling and word formation occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common academic vocabulary, improve control over word formation and collocations, and eliminate spelling errors by carefully proofreading their work.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting more complex patterns. There are noticeable grammatical issues throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement errors like "The pie chart illustrate" and "pie chart showed", missing articles such as "used library" and "used the place", and incorrect prepositions. Frequent errors in punctuation and basic sentence construction occur, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical forms, increase sentence variety, and reduce the frequency of errors in verb tenses, articles, and plurals.
