Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of both the pie chart and the table. The main features are identified, such as full-time undergraduates forming the largest group at 44% and staff helpfulness recording the highest satisfaction rate at 95%. Key comparisons are made between different categories and services, satisfying the core requirements of Task 1. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or lack extended commentary, such as the groupings in the lower ranges of the pie chart and minor details in the satisfaction table. To reach a higher band, the overview could be more fully integrated into the introduction, and all major trends should be supported with comprehensive data points without minor omissions in comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, moving from the pie chart to the satisfaction table. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct visual elements. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical and referencing is not always completely smooth, as seen in abrupt transitions between sentences like 'Part time graduates represent 16% .' and the subsequent descriptions. Furthermore, cohesive devices are somewhat basic. To improve, you should employ a wider variety of cohesive phrases more flexibly and ensure that paragraphs flow into one another with more sophisticated logical links rather than simple listing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the basic statistical information regarding percentages and proportions. You make several attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'proportions', 'satisfaction ratio', and 'dissatisfaction'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'availabilty', 'recieved', 'disatisfied', and 'Availabilty', along with awkward phrasings like 'satisfaction rate of 65% and fairly satisfaction rate'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they highlight limitations in lexical precision and word formation. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of less common lexical items accurately and check your spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating that you can construct compound statements and report comparative data. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout the text, including missing periods and commas (e.g., 'The pie chart Illustrates s the proportions', 'availability of books makes the highest percentage', 'Fewer than half Users are very satisfied'). While these errors rarely impede the overall communication of the data, they persist consistently. To reach the next level, you need to produce more frequent error-free sentences, maintain tighter control over subject-verb agreement, and refine your punctuation around complex clauses.
