Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by covering both the chart and the table, providing an overview, and making relevant comparisons. For instance, you correctly identify that full-time undergraduates form the largest user group at 44% and that staff satisfaction with helpfulness reached 95%. However, some parts of the task are handled better than others. The data from the table contains minor confusions regarding the specific breakdown of satisfaction categories, such as misinterpreting the figures for the availability of books and journals. To reach a higher level, ensure that all data points reported from complex tables are precisely matched to their correct categories without mixing up satisfaction levels.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the chart to the table. Information is organized into distinct paragraphs, including a clear introductory sentence and an overall summary. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'in terms of table', 'looking first at', and 'turning to' are used to guide the reader through the data, though some referencing and transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. To move towards a higher band, refine the use of cohesive markers to create smoother, more natural links between sentences and ensure referencing terms clearly point to the correct data subsets.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying numerical data and general trends using terms like 'proportion', 'largest group', and 'satisfaction level'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice errors, spelling mistakes such as 'survay' and 'demostrates', and awkward phrasings like 'recorded lower satisfaction levels' or 'smallest satisfaction levels'. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on accurate spelling, precise word formation, and natural collocations, ensuring that less common lexical items are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('full-time undergraduates contributes', 'user were most satisfied'), article usage ('in terms of table', 'were smallest proportion'), and run-on sentences joined by commas instead of full stops or proper conjunctions. These errors are noticeable but rarely impede overall communication. To improve your grammatical range and accuracy, work on complex sentence construction, ensure correct verb agreement with plural and singular subjects, and monitor your punctuation.
