Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task requirements and is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words was not met, as the student's response contains only 143 words. While the writer attempts to present the main features of the chart and table, such as noting that full-time undergraduates make up the largest proportion at 44%, the overview lacks clarity and fails to fully summarise the key information. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the omission of the final data points prevents a complete overview of the user satisfaction metrics.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response shows some basic organisation with transitional phrases like 'Overall', 'firstlt', and 'Secondly', but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, though formatting is somewhat disjointed due to the abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as 'firstlt' (which contains a typo) and repetitive sentence structures like 'which is the largest size' and 'which is 25%'. Referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, hindering the overall flow and readability of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are several noticeable lexical errors, including typos and incorrect word choices, such as 'layaout' instead of 'layout', 'firstlt' instead of 'firstly', and 'opnening' instead of 'opening'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to percentages and proportions, but these attempts are marred by spelling and word-form errors that cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the achievement of a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, such as 'a full-time postgraduate which is 25% have second highiest' and 'mean all courses having only 8%'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing periods and incomplete clauses towards the end. These frequent errors in grammar and structure can cause some difficulty for the reader in following the intended meaning.
