Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to summarise both the chart and the table. However, the selection of information is somewhat incomplete and lacks precision. While the writer correctly identifies the largest group as full-time undergraduates (at forty-four percent) and notes the academic staff at the lower end, several figures from the table are either misread or vaguely explained, such as the confusion surrounding journal and book satisfaction rates. Furthermore, the explanation for why academic staff spend less time in the library relies on personal speculation rather than objective reporting of the data. To reach a higher level, the response needs to provide a more accurate and comprehensive overview of the main features without introducing outside assumptions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text shows some organisation, attempting to separate the user categories from the satisfaction levels, but there is no clear overall progression due to poor paragraphing and a lack of standard structure. The response is written as a dense block of text with run-on sentences and inadequate transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or used inaccurately, such as abrupt shifts like 'second most important thing' and 'and comes wifi users'. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of comparisons. To improve coherence, the writer should divide the response into clear paragraphs with an introduction, overview, and well-sequenced body paragraphs using appropriate linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies on basic vocabulary and informal phrasing, such as 'first universal degree pupils', 'masters degree studnets', and 'stuff avalible'. There are numerous noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'compeletly', 'capicity', 'acdemic', 'knowladge', 'dusrring', 'acknowladge', 'indvidual', 'avialible', and 'jurnal'. While the meaning can sometimes be deciphered, these errors cause strain for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider range of appropriate academic vocabulary, improve control over word formation, and ensure accurate spelling of common terms related to graphs and data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined by weak punctuation or conjunctions. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, leading to run-on sentences and grammatical fragmentation, as seen in 'after them comes the indvidual those who consider library opening time as the most satisfying thing about it but at the same time minority of thirty five percent find it helpful at some extent'. There are frequent errors in articles, subject-verb agreement, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'majority of the users are', 'depend on', and missing capitalization at the start of sentences. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and indicate a need for stronger control over basic sentence boundaries and grammatical accuracy.
