Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially and covers the visual data in a limited and somewhat disjointed way. While it attempts to report some figures from both the chart and the table, key features and comparisons are under-developed or missing. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 123 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To move to a higher band, you need to ensure you meet the minimum word count and provide a fully developed overview that clearly highlights the main trends and significant comparisons across both the chart and the table without mechanical listing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with attempts at paragraphing, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions 'To commence with' and 'furthermore', which fail to create a smooth logical flow between ideas. Referencing and linking within sentences are frequently faulty, making the overall structure disjointed. To improve, you should ensure that sentences and paragraphs are logically connected using a wider variety of cohesive ties naturally, and structure your response with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'academic stuff' instead of 'academic staff', 'rare satisfied' instead of 'fairly satisfied', and spelling and word-choice errors like 'Avaibaility' and 'Realibility'. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary to include less common lexical items related to data reporting (such as 'proportion', 'majority', 'segment') and check your spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and poor sentence boundaries, such as in 'It has been manifest that academic stuff is 7% which is lowest amongest all.' Such frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you need to produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences, paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement, articles, and correct prepositional usage.
