Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing both the pie chart data on library users and the satisfaction table. An overview is successfully attempted in the introduction, noting that full-time undergraduates form the largest group and that staff helpfulness received high satisfaction. However, some aspects are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the data regarding the availability of books and journals is conflated or unclearly presented, stating 'around 50% students are satisfied with availability of books and journals' without detailing the specific figures for journals separately. While the main features are identified and some comparisons are made, the lack of precision in data reporting and slightly unbalanced development keep the task response at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents an overall coherent arrangement, dividing the information logically into an introduction, user categories, and satisfaction levels. Paragraphing is used to separate the different visual elements. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or faulty due to repetitive phrasing, such as starting sentences with 'Secondly' or 'Furthermore' rather than using a wider variety of cohesive devices. Referencing and linking between clauses can occasionally be unclear, such as 'remain 10% are not satisfied', where transitional words are missing or misused. Logical progression is evident, but the flow is constrained by basic connective structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic data points such as percentages and categories. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'helpfull staff', 'nutral' instead of neutral, and 'remain 10%'. Spelling errors like 'helpfull' and 'nutral' occur, and word forms are sometimes imprecise, for example, 'full time undergraduate students 44 percent uses' instead of 'account for'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main information, but errors in spelling and word choice prevent it from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating basic control over sentence structures. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('Full time undergraduate students uses', 'students is highly seen'), and punctuation slips such as ending sentences with commas instead of full stops. While these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to characterize this level. Complex structures are attempted, but they often lack accuracy in agreement or clause construction.
