Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting on the main features of both the pie chart and the table. An overview is successfully presented in the second paragraph, highlighting the highest and lowest categories and general satisfaction levels. However, some parts are more fully developed than others; for instance, the details regarding the survey data in the final paragraph are presented in a somewhat disjointed manner with minor inaccuracies, such as blending distinct satisfaction metrics together without fully exploring all the percentages provided in the table. While key trends are identified, the overall data selection lacks full extension, meaning some categories and figures require clearer comparison to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Information is logically grouped, beginning with the pie chart categories before moving to the table data. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'To begin with' and 'Turning to the next details', which feel slightly forced. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'part-time postgraduate the proportion was 16%,' where the grammatical link is missing. Paragraphing is used, but the internal logical progression within the final paragraph becomes a bit muddled, preventing a smoother flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'illustrates', 'proportion', 'category', and 'satisfaction'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'libaray' instead of 'library' and treating 'categories' as adjectives or verbs ('Categories of library users... has the largest percentage'). While these lexical errors and minor awkwardness do not impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score, as precision and appropriate collocations are inconsistently maintained throughout the description of the visual data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors present. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'Library opening hours and helpfulness of staff categories has', and missing prepositions or structural fragments, as seen in 'part-time postgraduate the proportion was 16%'. Additionally, minor punctuation lapses occur. These errors are classified as 'some' rather than frequent, and they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the intended data points despite the structural imperfections.
