Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features from the chart and table, but with noticeable inaccuracies and an underdeveloped overview. While the writer attempts to summarise the data by mentioning the highest user categories and some satisfaction statistics, the summary is incomplete and contains misinterpretations, such as stating that 40% are fairly satisfied with the availability of books when the chart shows 40% as fairly satisfied and 50% as very satisfied. Furthermore, important data points are missed or misreported. Additionally, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task completion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the writing into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the visual data. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, relying on basic transitions like 'Finally' and 'From statisfaction table'. Referencing and logical progression between sentences occasionally falter, leading to a somewhat disjointed flow, particularly in the body paragraphs where data points are listed rather than smoothly connected.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'categories', 'postgraduate', and 'satisfaction', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'chat' instead of 'chart', 'libary' instead of 'library', and 'statisfied' instead of 'satisfied'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some minor difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted lexical range appropriate for this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that often contain errors. There are frequent grammatical mistakes throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'The pie chat and table displays', article omissions, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns such as 'highest who uses libary out of all other categories'. These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, though meaning is still generally conveyed.
