Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the pie chart and the satisfaction table. The overview correctly identifies that full-time undergraduates had the highest proportion and academic staff the lowest, and accurately highlights general satisfaction trends. However, some ideas are under-developed or contain inaccuracies; for instance, the assertion that categories "fluctuate with the passage of time" is factually incorrect as the data represents a static demographic survey rather than a time series, and phrases like "After that, it fluctuate to respectively" are confusing and lack proper development. To reach a higher band, the writer should ensure all data points are accurately described without introducing erroneous temporal elements and provide a more fully developed comparison of the key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, overview, demographic breakdown, and a satisfaction section. Paragraphing is used to separate the different visual elements. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The transition between sentences in the second paragraph is weak, seen in awkward linking such as "After that, it fluctuate to respectively," and referencing is occasionally unclear. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas smoothly, ensuring that logical relationships between data points are clearly articulated rather than disjointed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic statistical concepts and categories such as "undergraduates," "postgraduate," and "satisfaction." The student attempts less common vocabulary, but this is accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and phrasing, such as "survery," "figurein," and "helpfull of staff." These errors do not seriously impede communication, allowing the general meaning to come across. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over less common lexical items, improve precision in word choice, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, providing some variety in structure. For example, sentences detailing the satisfaction percentages demonstrate an attempt at complex clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles ("full time undergraduate had the highest figurein the library users"), incorrect verb forms ("is had the lowest", "it fluctuate"), and punctuation errors such as missing commas or spacing issues. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they persist across the text. To move to a higher band, the writer must improve grammatical accuracy and consistency, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and article usage.
