Student answer (Band 6.5)
The pie chart illustrates the composition of university's library users, while the accompanying table provides breakdown of their satisfaction levels in five different aspects of literary.
Overall, full time undergraduates comprises maximum percentage of library users. Whereas, the group of academic staff represented the smallest proportion. In terms of satisfaction, helpfulness of staff has been highly rated, with opening hours of library also receiving entirely positive feedback. By contrast, availability of journals and reliability of Wi-Fi attracted comparatively more dissatisfaction.
Looking first at library users, undergraduates studying full time constituted 41% of library users, almost twice the proportion of full-time graduates at 25%. Part-time postgraduates further made up of 16%. However, in total the postgraduates were taken as 41% of library users. The remaining users consisted of distance learning of all courses and academic staff at 8% and 7% respectively.
Turning to satisfaction, helpfulness of staff was highly rated; 95% of library users were very satisfied and 5% of users were fairly satisfied. Moreover library opening hours showed an overwhelming proportion of very satisfied users at 65% and 35% users being fairly satisfied. Number of dissatisfied users were marked as Nil in either of categories.
Furthermore, availability of books showed a decent rate of very satisfied users at 50% and percentage of fairly satisfied people was 40%. However, this category leaves 10% of dissatisfied library users. The weakest categories are marked as availability of journals and reliability of Wi-Fi, availability of journals marked 45% of very satisfied people and 35.1% of fairly satisfied users. Conversely reliability of Wi-Fi constituted 48% of quite satisfied users and 33% of reasonably contented users, leaving 19% of disgruntled library users. In contrast availability of journals marked 20% of dissatisfied users.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear overview and highlighting the main features of both the pie chart and the table. Data is well selected and reported accurately, such as noting that full-time undergraduates formed the largest group at 44% (with a slight transcription slip in the body paragraph at 41%) and that staff and opening hours received overwhelmingly positive feedback. The information is adequately extended and supported with relevant percentages, though there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or lean on minor details in places, placing it firmly at this level of achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The text maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction and clear overall summary, followed by a breakdown of the chart data and concluding with the table statistics. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, such as 'Looking first at', 'Turning to satisfaction', and 'Conversely', which guide the reader smoothly through the visual data. Although referencing and paragraphing are generally well managed, occasional minor mechanical links or transitions show the characteristics typical of this band rather than a fully seamless flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate and demonstrates a sufficient range for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision with terms like 'composition', 'proportion', 'overwhelming proportion', and 'disgruntled'. There are, however, some lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'aspects of literary' instead of 'literature' or 'library services', and minor shifts like 'quite satisfied' instead of the chart's 'fairly satisfied'. These occasional errors and slightly unnatural collocations do not impede communication, reflecting a solid middle-band lexical control while stopping just short of a wider, more polished range of less common items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure through clauses introduced by 'while', 'as', and 'leaving'. There are, however, noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement and article issues such as 'full time undergraduates comprises' instead of 'comprise', 'breakdown of their satisfaction' missing an article, and minor punctuation or preposition slips like 'made up of'. These errors occur regularly alongside error-free sentences, but they rarely impede communication, aligning well with the expected mix of simple and complex structures and occasional non-impeding errors.
