Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task only partially and falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 136 words. While you attempted to cover both the pie chart and the table by selecting main features such as the highest proportion of library users being full-time undergraduates at 44% and the highest satisfaction being for staff helpfulness at 95%, your overview is somewhat underdeveloped. You noted that full-time graduates contributed most of their time, but the visual data actually refers to categories of library users rather than time spent. To reach a higher band, you need to write more than 150 words, ensure all reported information accurately reflects the visual data without misinterpretation, and provide a more fully developed overview of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. You attempted to group ideas into paragraphs, separating the general summary, user categories, and satisfaction levels. However, the logical flow is disrupted by mechanical and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive devices, such as starting sentences with 'Whereas,' and 'While,' followed immediately by a full stop and a new clause. Referencing and linking between sentences are occasionally faulty, for instance using 'Although,' incorrectly at the start of a sentence without a contrasting main clause. To improve, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used accurately to connect ideas smoothly and that paragraphs follow a logical and progressive structure from introduction to overview and specific details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You successfully attempted some less common or task-specific vocabulary such as 'proportions', 'satisfaction level', and 'major contributors'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'full time graduates' instead of undergraduates, 'distant learners' instead of distance learners, and 'user satisfactory sector' instead of satisfaction category. Spelling and word formation errors also occur, such as 'accouted' instead of accounted. These inaccuracies can cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary, use precise phrasing related to data description, and check your word forms and spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your grammar displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that often turn out faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, such as missing articles ('in library' instead of 'in the library'), incorrect prepositions ('satisfied with' versus 'happy with' usage), and faulty punctuation including missing spaces after full stops ('44%.On the other hand'). You also struggled with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency in places. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct punctuation and article usage, and reducing grammatical errors by proofreading your sentences.
