Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to report data from both the pie chart and the table, the information is presented with notable inaccuracies and confusion, particularly in the second paragraph regarding satisfaction percentages and totals. For instance, the student states that 'adding all not satstfied users comes to 49%', which is an incorrect reading of the data and obscures the main features of the table. Key comparisons are attempted, such as identifying full-time undergraduates as the largest group and academic staff as the smallest, but the overall selection and reporting of data lack clarity and precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response shows some organization with an introductory sentence and basic attempts to group data, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is extremely weak, as the entire report is crammed into two massive, poorly structured blocks of text that mix the pie chart data and the satisfaction table together without logical separation. Cohesive devices are repetitive, mechanical, and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'On the other section' and 'at end'. Referencing is also confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with frequent spelling errors and poor word choices throughout the text. Misspellings such as 'propotion', 'catogries', 'libary', 'higer', 'resluting', 'percnetage', 'avalibility', 'satsified', and 'faily' appear repeatedly. There are also inappropriate word forms and collocations, such as 'libary's are given opening hours' and 'least faily satisfied'. These noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic, run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation and conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are faulty and grammatically fractured, such as 'As Distance learning (all course) have slightly higer users, where part-time postgraduate are there resluting in 16 percent users'. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('The pie chart illustrate', 'academic staff are... with 7 percent users'), missing articles ('accounted for largest proportion'), and preposition use. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty and strain for the reader.
