Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given chart and table illustrates the findings of a survey of students who use library at a university.

Closer examination shows that full-time undergraduate students have the highest ratio in library users. Moreover, mostly the users are very satisfied from the services of library.

Further examination shows that largest ratio of library users consists full-time undergraduate which is exactly 44% while the academic staff has the lowest ratio which is about 7% and distance learning is just 1% more than the acdemic staff .Aditionally , full time post graduate shows the ratio of 25% in catogories.

A more in-depth analysis reveals that the proportion of very satisfied users is the heaviest in weightage while users who are not satisfied with library services are lowest in ratio.Almost 95 % are fully satisfied with helpfullness of staff and ramainig 5 % are fairly satisfied .Similarly ,Least amount of users is satisfied with availibilty of journals which is 45 % and balanced ratio in other two catagories fairly satisfied and not satisfied which is 35% and 20% respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the chart and the table, and makes relevant comparisons. For instance, the student correctly identifies that full-time undergraduates represent the largest user group at 44%, while academic staff account for the lowest at 7%. However, some parts are more fully developed than others; the information regarding user satisfaction is somewhat selective and contains minor inaccuracies, such as stating distance learning is 1% more than academic staff (the chart shows 8% and 7% respectively) and claiming that 45% represents the least amount of satisfied users for journals when the 'not satisfied' category for other metrics is lower. Additionally, the overview is rather basic. To reach a higher band, the response needs to present a clearer and more comprehensive overview of all major trends without minor data misinterpretations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information logically, opening with an introduction and following with body paragraphs detailing the chart and table data. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'Further examination', and 'Similarly', though their usage is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but the physical layout of the text could be managed more effectively to separate the distinct visual stimuli. Reference is generally clear, but referencing between sentences occasionally falters due to abrupt transitions. To improve coherence, the logical progression between the chart data and the table data needs to be smoother, and cohesive devices should be varied more naturally rather than relying on formulaic transitional phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic concepts and data points such as 'ratio', 'proportion', and 'highest'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items like 'in-depth analysis', 'heaviest in weightage', and 'balanced ratio', but these attempts show some inaccuracy and awkward collocation, such as 'heaviest in weightage' or 'satisfaction from the services'. There are also several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'acdemic', 'Aditionally', 'catogories', 'helpfullness', 'ramainig', and 'availibilty'. Fortunately, these errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, improve precision in word choice and collocation, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses ('users who are not satisfied') and subordinate clauses. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing articles ('use library at a university', 'consists full-time undergraduate'), incorrect preposition use ('satisfied from the services'), and spacing issues around commas and full stops ('Moreover, mostly', 'Similarly ,Least'). Despite these errors in grammar and punctuation, they rarely impede communication. To move to a higher band, the student needs to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better command over articles, prepositions within grammatical patterns, and punctuation spacing.
