Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table and a pie chart shows the percentages of satisfaction with the library from different library users, after a library survey.

Overall, the chart shows the percentage of library users with half coverage of the full-time undergraduates to the total and remaining half covers the full-time postgraduate, part-time postgraduates, distance learning, and academic staff with the lowest figures. The table shows the satisfaction level of users who are very satisfied, fairly satisfied and dissastisfied.

Firstly, in pie chart full time undergraduates makes the largest proprtion of library users, about 44%. Related to other users, full-time postgraduates makes up 25% of the total, almost double the figure for part-time postgraduates (16%). Users who learn from distance and academic staff covers 8% and 7% respectively, the joint lowest figure.

The table shows the satisafaction level from users related to the different perspectives. Users who are very satisfied from the library openning hours and the hospitsality of staff members constitutes 65% and 95%, whereas 0 users are dissastisfied from these fileds. Availability of journals and reliability of wi-fi shows almost the same percentages, users with highly satisfaction account for 45% and 48%, with 20% and 19% contributes to the users who are not satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both visuals and identify several important features accurately: undergraduates are the largest user group at 44%, staff helpfulness has the highest very-satisfied result at 95%, and opening hours receive no dissatisfaction. The overview also recognises the broad distribution of user categories. However, some comparisons are incomplete or unclear. For example, you describe the remaining user groups as a “half” without explaining their individual shares, and the table discussion omits the book-availability results, which are useful for comparing satisfaction across all aspects. The phrase “joint lowest figure” is inaccurate because distance learners (8%) and academic staff (7%) are close but not equal. A more complete overview and a clearer comparison of the satisfaction categories would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the pie chart and table. Sequencing words such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “whereas” help guide the reader, and the two visuals are discussed in a sensible order. Some links between ideas are less clear or mechanical, however. “Related to other users” does not smoothly introduce the comparison, while “The table shows the satisfaction level from users related to the different perspectives” is vague and repeats the introductory function. The final paragraph also combines several figures in a long sentence, making the relationships between satisfaction levels harder to follow. Use more precise topic sentences and organise the table results into clear comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “percentages,” “largest proportion,” “makes up,” and “satisfaction level.” This gives you an adequate range for the task, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “half coverage” is not a natural way to describe the user distribution, “highly satisfaction” is incorrectly formed, and “hospitality of staff members” does not accurately express staff helpfulness. There are also spelling errors, including “dissastisfied,” “proprtion,” and “openning.” Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make the comparisons sound more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and a relative clause in “users who are very satisfied.” Most of the information remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent: “The table and a pie chart shows” should use “show,” and “full-time undergraduates makes” should be “make.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “in pie chart” and “Users who are very satisfied from the library opening hours,” where the relationship between users and the facilities is not expressed grammatically. The final sentence has an unclear structure around “with 20% and 19% contributes.” Practise checking agreement and building complete, parallel comparisons.
