Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.5)
This illustration gives information about the university library users' ratio survey, and also the users' satisfaction level.
In conclusion, overall, the high ratio of library users is mostly full-time undergraduate users, and the ratio then slowly declines for other categories of library users.
Most of the users are full-time undergraduates, with a high 44% ratio; then the users are full-time postgraduate users with a 25% ratio; furthermore, the users are part-time postgraduate users with simply a16% ratio; then the distance learning users with only an 8% ratio; and last, the academic staff users with just a 7% ratio.
Moreover, the users' satisfaction level with library opening hours is about 65% and fairly 35%; then, with helpfulness of staff is very satisfied at about 95% and fairly at about 5%; moreover, availability of books is about 50% fully satisfied, and fairly is about 40%; furthermore, availability of journals, the users are not fully satisfied, and last, reliability of wi-fi, the users are not satisfied with wi-fi connection

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%, and you include the remaining categories. You also cover the satisfaction table, but several important comparisons are incomplete or unclear. For example, you say users were “not fully satisfied” with journals and dissatisfied with Wi-Fi without reporting the very/fairly/not satisfied figures, so the reader cannot see the distribution. The overview focuses on user categories but does not summarise the strongest satisfaction result—staff helpfulness—or the generally positive ratings for opening hours. Some figures are also described imprecisely, such as “65% and fairly 35%” for opening hours. Select the key contrasts and report them accurately and explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a broad overview, user-category figures, and then satisfaction results. However, the progression is weakened by the lack of clear paragraphing and by repeated linking words such as “then,” “moreover,” and “furthermore.” The overview begins “In conclusion,” which makes it sound like a final paragraph even though details follow. The satisfaction section also runs several topics together, and the final comments on journals and Wi-Fi are not supported with figures, leaving the comparison unfinished. Organise the response into distinct paragraphs for the chart and table, use a concise overview after the introduction, and connect details by grouping similar results rather than listing them mechanically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and categories, and terms such as “full-time undergraduate,” “availability of books,” and “reliability of wi-fi” are relevant. However, several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, including “ratio” for the proportions of users, “high 44% ratio,” and “fully satisfied” where the table’s category is “very satisfied.” Phrases such as “users’ satisfaction level … is about 65% and fairly 35%” are also awkward and make the intended comparison less clear. Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “rated … very satisfied.” Varying these expressions and using the table’s rating labels consistently would make the report clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “Most of the users are full-time undergraduates, with a high 44% ratio; then…” and clauses introduced by “with,” but the response relies heavily on extended lists joined by semicolons and conjunctions. This leads to incomplete or awkward constructions, particularly “availability of journals, the users are not fully satisfied” and “the users are not satisfied with wi-fi connection,” where the relationship between the subject and the reported data is not clearly formed. There are also article and number issues, as in “a16%,” and punctuation is inconsistent. Use complete, controlled sentences—for example, “Half of respondents were very satisfied with book availability”—and check articles, spacing, and sentence boundaries.
