Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pie chart illustrates survey results of library users at a university.

Overall, most of the library users are full-time undergraduate students and least library users are the academic staff. The users are more satisfied with the helpfullness of staff and least by the availability of journals.

When it comes to users, most of them are Full-time undergraduate which is 44% of the total users and least is the academic staff which is just 7%.

Full-time postgraduates are also a major users with 25% and part-timr postgraduate also use the library which is 16%.Distance learners of all the courses use the library which is slightly more than the staff which is 8%.

In the survey it shows that users are almost satisfied with the helpfullness of staff and least satisfied by the availability of journals. Average users are comfortable with the library opening hours. The library should maintain the reliability of wi-fi as the users are not satisfied with that. The library should improve the availability of books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main user group and the smallest group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff make up 7%. You also note the high satisfaction with staff helpfulness and lower satisfaction with journal availability, so the response covers both visuals and gives a relevant overview. However, some comparisons are imprecise: “least satisfied by the availability of journals” overlooks that wi-fi has a similar 19% dissatisfied figure, while journals are highest at 20%. The comments that users are “comfortable” with opening hours and that the library “should improve” books or maintain wi-fi are not supported as survey findings; report the percentages instead. Develop the satisfaction summary with key figures, especially the 95% very satisfied with staff and the 65% with opening hours.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph about satisfaction. This makes the two chart topics easy to identify. However, progression is weakened because the final paragraph shifts from reporting results to recommendations, and the satisfaction data are not organised systematically. Phrases such as “When it comes to users” and repeated references to “most” and “least” create a somewhat mechanical flow. The sentence joining the distance-learning figure to the staff comparison also runs directly into the next sentence without a space after the full stop. Group the satisfaction results together, compare the strongest and weakest ratings, and use clear links such as “By contrast” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “survey,” “library users,” “full-time undergraduate,” “availability,” and “reliability,” and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal for a data summary. “Least library users” is awkward, “least satisfied by” is not the natural phrasing, and “comfortable with the library opening hours” does not precisely describe a satisfaction rating. There are also spelling errors in “helpfullness” and “part-timr,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “expressed satisfaction with,” and “the lowest satisfaction rating.” Avoid adding evaluative recommendations when the task calls for describing the figures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, and the main information is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “least library users are the academic staff” needs a clearer superlative construction, while “Full-time postgraduates are also a major users” has a number-agreement error. “Full-time undergraduate which is 44%” also needs a plural noun and a more suitable clause structure, such as “Full-time undergraduates, who account for 44%...” The sentence beginning “In the survey it shows” is awkwardly formed. Review articles and singular/plural agreement, and punctuate sentence boundaries consistently; these changes would make your comparisons more controlled.
