Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also select relevant satisfaction findings, including the high ratings for staff helpfulness and opening hours and the greater dissatisfaction with journals and Wi-Fi. However, the satisfaction overview is imprecise: 95% and 65% are the very-satisfied figures, not overall satisfaction, and the claim that these categories had “zero not satisfied users” applies to both, but needs clearer wording. Several table figures and comparisons are omitted, so this part is less fully reported than the user categories. The response is also 6 words below the 150-word minimum. Develop the satisfaction summary with accurate figures and a clearer comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by one paragraph on user categories and another on satisfaction. This makes the main topics easy to locate. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Regarding,” and “In contrast” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, some transitions are mechanical or awkward, particularly “Coming to the library users,” which does not clearly introduce the satisfaction table. The final paragraph also combines several figures in a long, difficult-to-follow sentence, and the reference in “reaching 20% and 19%” could be clearer. Use more direct topic sentences and separate the satisfaction comparisons into clearer units to improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing proportions and comparisons, including “largest group,” “highest percentage,” “whereas,” and “In contrast.” These choices generally communicate the intended comparisons. However, several expressions are unnatural or imprecise for an academic report: “least strength,” “managed to secure,” “highly recorded approvals,” and “most unsatisfied users” do not describe survey proportions naturally. “Readers” is also less precise than “library users” in this context. Aim for standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “the lowest proportion,” and “the highest level of dissatisfaction.” More accurate collocations would make the report clearer and more appropriately formal, while retaining the useful range you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and “In contrast,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain. In the opening, “The chart and table … illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error; use “illustrate.” In the overview, “Additionally, majority library users” needs an article and a clearer grammatical construction, such as “Additionally, the majority of library users…”. The phrase “giving 95% and 65% helpfulness of staff and library opening hours” has an unclear sentence structure, making the relationship between the figures and categories difficult to follow. Check agreement, articles, and sentence construction, especially when combining multiple data points. More consistently controlled complex sentences would strengthen accuracy.
