Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given pie chart illustrates the distribtion and table gives the results of a survey of library users at a university.
Looking at the pie chart, the full-time undergradute holds the largest distribution as it contains 44 percent and academic staff in chart holds the smallest distribution as it is only 7 percent. Additionally, the proportion of full-time postgraduate is 25 percent. The part-time postgraduate in chart also holds a distribution of 16 percent. Eventually, the ratio of distance learning is only 8% in the chart.
On the other hand, table tells about the satisfaction of library user. To begin with very satisfied, users are 95 percent satisfied with the helpfulness of staff which is the greatest ratio and 65 percent satisfied with library opening hours. The half of users are very satisfied with availbility of books and 48 percent are very satisfied with reliability of wi-fi. Ultimately, 45 percent of library user is very satsfied with the availibilty of journals.
Furthermore, 35 proportion of library openings and availibilty of journals are fairly satisfied and 33 percent are fairly satisfied with the reliability of wi-fi.The majority of users is fairly satisfied with availibilty of books and only 5 percent of users are fairly satisfied with the helpfulness of the staff.
In Addition, 20 percent of user are not satisfied with the availability of journals. Moreover, 19 percent of users are not satisfied with the reliability of wi-fi. At last, only 10 percent of users are not satisfied with the availability of books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover both visuals and report several accurate figures, including the largest user group (44% full-time undergraduates), the smallest (7% academic staff), and satisfaction with staff helpfulness (95% very satisfied). However, the response mainly lists figures rather than selecting and summarising the key patterns, and it lacks a clear overall overview. A useful overview would note that undergraduates form the largest user category, while staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction and journals the weakest. There is also a factual error: 35% were fairly satisfied with opening hours, but the response says both opening hours and journals had this figure; only 35% were fairly satisfied with journals as well, so the value is correct but the phrasing is unclear. Develop the main comparisons more clearly and distinguish the three satisfaction categories throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it first describes the user categories, then discusses satisfaction, with separate paragraphs for very satisfied, fairly satisfied and not satisfied responses. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow. However, progression within the satisfaction section is somewhat mechanical, relying on repeated transitions such as “To begin with,” “Ultimately,” “Furthermore,” and “At last.” Some links are also unclear: “35 proportion of library openings and availability of journals are fairly satisfied” does not clearly identify the figures or subjects. Grouping the satisfaction results by notable patterns—for example, comparing staff helpfulness and opening hours with books, journals and wi-fi—would create a more purposeful progression and reduce the list-like effect.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “distribution,” “satisfied,” and “availability,” and the reader can generally identify the categories and survey results. However, the range is limited and several choices are repetitive or unnatural, such as “holds the largest distribution,” “greatest ratio,” and “35 proportion.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “distribtion,” “undergradute,” “availbility,” “satsfied,” and “availibilty.” These errors weaken precision and can make the report less fluent. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully; terms such as “accounted for,” “share,” and “satisfaction rating” would help you describe the data more naturally without repeating “distribution” and “ratio.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms and use present-tense reporting consistently, but sentence structures are mostly simple and several grammatical errors recur. For example, “the full-time undergradute holds the largest distribution as it contains 44 percent” has an unclear subject relationship, while “35 proportion … are fairly satisfied” has faulty sentence construction and agreement. In “the majority of users is fairly satisfied,” the verb does not agree naturally with the plural meaning of “users.” Articles and number are also inconsistent in phrases such as “library user” and “45 percent of library user is.” Use a wider mix of accurate comparison structures, and check subject–verb agreement, singular/plural forms and sentence boundaries when revising.
