Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The bar chart and table illustrates the outcomes of survey of library users categories and statisfaction at a university.

Overall, the most common users of library are full-time undergraduate, while others are less common. Users are mostly statisfied with helpfulness of staff, in contrast users were least statisfied with availablity of journals.

Full-time undergraduates accounted for nearly half of the library users. While, full-time postgraduates were one quarter of the users. Meanwhile, other users shared the remaining one third of the portion. Academic staff at 7%, distance learning of all courses at 8% and part-time postgraduates at 16%.

Almost, every user is very statisfied with helpfulness of staff, while some is fairly statisfied. Library opening hours shares the ratio at 65:35 for very statisfied and fairly statisfied. While, half of the users is very statisfied with availablity of books, 40% is fairly statisfied and remaining 10% is not statisfied. Availablity of journals have the ratio of 45:35:20 and reliability of wi-fi is 48:33:19.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both visuals and provide a clear overview: undergraduates are the largest user group, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction, while journals are the least positively rated. The figures you report are generally accurate, including the user-group proportions and the satisfaction breakdowns for opening hours, books, journals and Wi-Fi. The comparison that undergraduates make up nearly half and full-time postgraduates one quarter is useful. To make the account more fully developed, report the notable 95% very-satisfied result for staff helpfulness rather than saying only “almost every user,” and clarify that no respondents were dissatisfied with either staff helpfulness or opening hours. The overview is relevant and the main features are selected, though a few key details are generalised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction. This gives the reader a logical route through the two visuals, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile” and “in contrast” help signal relationships. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or awkward, particularly the repeated sentence openings with “While” and “Meanwhile.” For example, “While, full-time postgraduates…” is not a complete sentence, and the final paragraph strings several comparisons together without consistently clear links. Grouping the satisfaction results more deliberately—for example, the strongest ratings first, followed by the lower ratings—would improve progression. Use linking words only where they express a genuine contrast or addition.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for describing the charts, and terms such as “accounted for,” “users,” “very satisfied” and “reliability” communicate the main information. You also attempt useful comparative language, including “most common” and “least satisfied.” However, several spelling errors recur, notably “statisfication/statisfied” and “availablity,” which reduce accuracy. Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural: “shared the remaining one third of the portion” is cumbersome, and “shares the ratio at 65:35” is not a natural way to describe percentages. Prefer concise chart language such as “made up the remaining 29%” and “the figures were 65% and 35%.” Greater precision and more reliable spelling would strengthen your lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and some more complex structures, and the main comparisons are usually understandable. However, there are several errors in sentence construction, agreement and articles. The opening sentence needs “illustrates the results of a survey,” while “the most common users of library” requires an article before “library.” “While, full-time postgraduates were one quarter” is a fragment, and “some is fairly satisfied” has a subject–verb agreement error. In the final paragraph, “Library opening hours shares” and “Availability of journals have” also show agreement problems; the latter subject is singular. Try combining contrast clauses into complete sentences and check each subject against its verb. These recurring issues limit accuracy, although the intended meaning remains clear.
