Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart and table illustrates the outcome from a survey of a university library which is based on its type of users and their satisfaction level regarding various aspects. At a glance, most consumers of the library are full-time undergraduates and the academic staff are less likely to use the university library and users are highly satisfied with the helpfulness of library staffs.

Overall,it is clear that, the highest number of library-goers are full-time undergraduates.Furthermore, the full-time post graduates are consisting of 25% of the total percentage which is almost half of the full-time undergraduates.However,part-time post graduates are likely to hold the 3rd highest number of percentage.Nevertheless, the percentage of distance learning and academic staff remains similar and holding the less users criteria. From the table, readers are highly satisfied with the helpful gestures of staff and opening hours of library respectively.Additionally, readers are less satisfied with the range of journals. Moreover, learners are most fairly satisfied with the availability of books.

In conclusion, the amount of full-time undergraduates outweigh the other type of library-goers and the helpful attitude of library staff is satisfactory.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main user group accurately: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, while academic staff are the smallest group at 7%. You also select relevant satisfaction findings, especially the strong ratings for staff helpfulness and opening hours, and the lower satisfaction with journals. This gives the report a clear overview and addresses both visuals. Some comparisons are less precise or developed, however: distance learners (8%) and academic staff (7%) are similar, but this is only briefly stated, and the claim that readers are “most fairly satisfied” with books is unclear because books have 40% fairly satisfied, while opening hours have 35% and staff helpfulness 5%. Include a few exact satisfaction figures and clarify comparisons to make the key features more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview of the main patterns, and a concluding statement. Ideas generally progress from user categories to satisfaction, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships. The organisation is coherent overall, but the overview and conclusion repeat the dominance of undergraduates and staff helpfulness rather than adding distinct information. Some transitions are mechanical or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas, as in “Nevertheless” before the smallest user groups. The long overview paragraph also combines several comparisons without clear separation. Grouping the user-category findings in one paragraph and the satisfaction results in another, with more precise links, would make progression clearer and cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “satisfaction level,” “percentage,” “range of journals,” and “availability of books.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing survey data. “Consumers” and “library-goers” are less suitable than “users,” while “helpful gestures” does not accurately describe staff helpfulness. Phrases such as “hold the 3rd highest number of percentage” and “less users criteria” are difficult to interpret, and “post graduates” is not conventionally written as one word in this context. These noticeable collocation and word-form problems limit precision, although the overall topic remains understandable. Aim for standard chart language and use the same terms as the visual where possible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “which” and “while,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, some errors recur in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The pie chart and table illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, and “the full-time post graduates are consisting” uses an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence also runs together after “aspects,” and commas are frequently followed by no space, making sentence boundaries harder to read. There are also awkward constructions such as “the percentage … remains similar and holding.” Check subject–verb agreement, use straightforward verb forms, and punctuate each sentence carefully; this would improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex sentences.
