Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates make up the largest share, at 44%, and you note that staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction result. However, the response stops before reporting the figures or completing the comparison: “After that, a quater was” is unfinished, and the satisfaction overview does not identify the lowest result accurately or explain it. The chart also shows academic staff at 7% and distance learners at 8%, while journal availability has the lowest very-satisfied share, but these details are not developed. The response is 57 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Include a complete overview and select key figures from both visuals.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces both visuals, followed by an overview beginning “Overall”. The contrast signalled by “However” also shows an effort to connect the two main topics. Nevertheless, the response has no developed body paragraphs, and the final sentence breaks off, so the information does not progress to a clear conclusion or comparison. The relationship between the user categories and satisfaction results is not explained. To improve, group the user proportions in one paragraph and satisfaction findings in another, then use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding satisfaction” to guide the reader through complete points.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion”, “highest”, “lowest” and “satisfaction”, and the reader can recognise the two subjects being compared. However, the range is very limited because the response ends early, and several phrases are inaccurate or incomplete. “Experienced the highest proportion” is not a natural way to describe a user category’s share, while “the highest figures” is imprecise for a single satisfaction result. “Full-time undergraduate was accounted” is also an unsuccessful attempt at a data-reporting phrase, and “quater” is misspelled. Use precise expressions such as “accounted for 44%” and “the highest satisfaction rating”, and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You produce a few complete simple sentences, including “The piechart and table illustrate the results…” and “Overall, it can clearly be seen…”. The opening also attempts a more complex structure with “while”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent: “Full-time undergraduate wasaccounted…” has a faulty verb construction and missing spacing, and “a quater was” is an incomplete clause. The phrase “Helpfulness of staff was the highest figures” also has a subject–complement agreement problem. Most of the response relies on short, basic structures, so there is little evidence of a controlled range. Practise complete comparisons using accurate forms such as “Undergraduates accounted for…” and “Staff helpfulness had the highest satisfaction score.”
