Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart illustrates the library users percentage categorized on the basis of their designation such as academic staff, Undergraduate, postgraduate and the distant learners.Overall, full-time undergraduate students used library the most followed by full-time postgraduate students.

The part-time postgraduate students remained the modest library users while distant learners and academic staff used library rarely.

At a glance it can be observed 44% of the library users were full-time undergraduate students along with full-time postgraduate students occupying 25% proportion of the users whereas part-time postgraduate students used library nearly 16%.Conversely, the figure indicates that other user's proportion such as academic staff and distant learners hovered between 7% and 8%.

On the contrary, the table depicts the results of a survey conducted on satisfaction level of library usage by its users.Overall people were most satisfied with the cooperation of the staff and timings of library.Approximately half of the users satisfied with avaibility of books and journals. The satisfaction level for reliability of wifi remained about 48%.On the other hand, indivduals fairly satisfied with the availability of books and journals were the highest in proportion. There were none of the users dissatisfying with the timings and cooperation of staff but a small propotion of the users dissatified with the availability of sources such as books and journals.Lasty 19% of users were not satisfied with the reliability of wifi as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both visuals and identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, followed by full-time postgraduates at 25%. You also note the strong satisfaction with staff helpfulness and opening hours, and the lower ratings for journals and Wi-Fi. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. Calling part-time postgraduates the “modest” users overlooks that academic staff (7%) and distance learners (8%) are smaller groups. The statement that fairly satisfied users were highest for books and journals is not supported: the largest fairly satisfied figure is for opening hours (35%), while books are 40%. Also, 48% refers to users very satisfied with Wi-Fi, not overall satisfaction. Select and report the key figures more precisely, especially across the table.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it first describes the user categories and then moves to satisfaction, with an overview for each visual. This makes the main progression easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or confusing. “On the contrary” does not express a contrast between the pie chart and table, and “At a glance” and “Conversely” are used where a straightforward comparison would be clearer. The satisfaction paragraph also moves between positive ratings and dissatisfaction without a consistent sequence, making comparisons harder to track. Grouping the table’s strongest results together, then comparing books, journals and Wi-Fi, would improve cohesion. Use clear references such as “this proportion” only when the figure being referred to is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing proportions and satisfaction, including “proportion,” “hovered between,” “satisfaction level” and “dissatisfied.” These choices show an attempt to vary language beyond basic repetition. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “library users percentage categorized on the basis of their designation,” “used library rarely,” and “cooperation of the staff” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Distant learners” is also less suitable than the chart’s “distance learning” category, and “timings” is less precise than “opening hours.” Spelling slips such as “avaibility,” “indivduals” and “propotion” are noticeable. Prefer standard chart language such as “accounted for,” “made up” and “rated the service as.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and clauses introduced by “while.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Articles and sentence structure are problematic in phrases such as “used library the most” and “half of the users satisfied with availability”; these need forms such as “used the library the most” and “half of users were satisfied with the availability.” There are also agreement and punctuation issues, including “other user's proportion” and missing spaces after commas or full stops. Several long sentences combine multiple comparisons without clear grammatical control. Check articles, include the verb in satisfaction statements, and divide crowded sentences into shorter, accurately punctuated units.
