Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart illustrates the proportion of the different categories of library users and the table presents the percentage of satisfaction by library users.

Overall, full-time undergraduates utilize library facilities among all other categories. The staffs helping users in library provide more satisfaction than any other amenities.

Academic staffs come under the lowest proportion along with distance learners that use library for 7% and 8% respectively. The largest proportion belong to the full-time bachelors with 44% and followed by full-time postgraduates in second position for 25%. Part-time postgraduates use library on moderate level of 16%.

The library users are very satified with staffs who help with 95%, whereas 20% of people are not satified with journals available. Half of the portion of users are completely satisfied with books and 40% fairly satisfied, 10% not satisfied respectively. 65% are very satisfied with library timings and 355 a

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for the largest share (44%), while academic staff are the smallest (7%). You also report several satisfaction figures accurately, including 95% very satisfied with staff helpfulness and 20% not satisfied with journals. However, the response covers the table only partially: it omits the wi-fi results and leaves the opening-hours comparison unfinished. The final text ends with “355 a,” which is unclear and prevents the reader from seeing the remaining information. The overview is relevant but broad, and the claim that staff provide more satisfaction than any other amenities would be clearer if tied specifically to the 95% figure. The response is also five words below the required minimum. Include the missing comparisons and complete the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about user categories, and a paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened because the final paragraph stops abruptly at “355 a,” leaving the opening-hours data incomplete and disrupting the ending. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, such as “and followed by” and the repeated use of “satisfied.” Grouping the satisfaction results more systematically—for example, first highlighting the strongest ratings, then comparing the weaker areas—would make the information easier to follow. Use complete sentences and clear transitions between the chart and table details to strengthen the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “proportion,” “categories,” “satisfaction,” and “availability,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons you intend. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “utilize library facilities among all other categories,” “staffs helping users,” and “use library on moderate level” do not express the data smoothly. “Library timings” is less precise than “opening hours,” and “full-time bachelors” is not the chart’s label; use “full-time undergraduates.” There are also spelling errors in “satified” and an unclear ending, “355 a.” Aim for accurate chart terminology and natural comparison phrases, such as “accounted for” and “were very satisfied.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the opening sentence clearly distinguishes what the chart and table show. However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some statements awkward or unclear. For example, “The largest proportion belong” should use a singular verb, while “Academic staffs come under the lowest proportion” has an unclear grammatical structure. In “The library users are very satified with staffs who help with 95%,” the relationship between the users, staff, and percentage is not expressed accurately. The final fragment, “and 355 a,” is incomplete. Practise forming complete comparison sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence endings before submitting.
