Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main user-group pattern accurately: full-time undergraduates are the largest group at 44%, and academic staff are the smallest at 7%. Your overview also correctly highlights staff helpfulness as the strongest satisfaction result. However, the satisfaction comparison is incomplete: you call journals the least satisfactory category but do not report its figures or explain that it has the highest dissatisfaction (20%). The response also stops after discussing opening hours, leaving books, journals and wi-fi unreported. Some figures are presented without the percent sign, and “15” for distance learners and academic staff should be identified as their combined share. Covering these omitted categories would make the summary more complete and better balanced.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the user categories and satisfaction results. Phrases such as “Overall,” “Looking first,” and “Turning to” help signal the progression, and the main points are generally easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some effective paragraphing. However, the final paragraph ends abruptly after opening hours, so the reader is left without a complete account of the table. Some linking is also mechanical, with repeated “Moreover” and “In addition.” Develop a more balanced sequence by grouping the key satisfaction comparisons and using references such as “this category” or “the remaining areas” where appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “largest proportion,” “second-largest,” “distribution,” and “satisfaction levels,” which allows the main comparisons to be understood. There are also attempts at more formal reporting language. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or awkward expressions reduce accuracy: “satisfation,” “cources,” “togather,” and “disatisfied” are noticeable, while “library opening” is an incomplete label. “Highly satisfied” is less precise than the table’s category “very satisfied,” and “contributed the largest proportion” is less natural than “accounted for the largest share.” Aim for accurate spelling and consistent use of the chart’s labels, alongside more natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the overview and a sentence beginning “In addition.” The meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms and sentence construction remain. For example, “The chart and table illustrates” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “full-time undergraduate category accounted” would read more naturally with an article. In “part-time postgraduates making up the 16,” the clause lacks a finite verb, and “helpfulness of staff have” repeats the agreement problem. The final sentence also lacks a full stop. Check subject–verb agreement, complete clauses, and punctuation when editing; these corrections would improve control without requiring more complicated structures.
