Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart depicts the five types of library users and the table illustrates the information about how many people are satisfied or not.

Overall, it is evident that full-time undergraduate experienced the highest proportion of library users; whereas, academic staff is the least. In terms of satisfaction, the helpfulness staff received most positive feedback, while the availability of journals attracted the highest level of dissatisfaction.

According to the pie chart, full-time undregraduate represented around 44%, subsequently full-time postgraduate and part-time postgraduate accounted for 25% and 16%, respectively. In contrast, around 8% occupied by distance learning users. Moreover, only 7% contained by academic staff.

Regarding satisfaction, approximately 95% responders were very satisfied with the helpfulness of staff and remaining 5% were fairly satisfied. Library opening hours also received favourable feedback, with 65% very satisfied and 35% fairly satisfied. For book availability, half of the respondents were very satisfied, while 40% were fairly satisfied and 10% were dissatisfied. By comparison, satisfaction with journal availability was lower, with 20% expressing dissatisfaction. Wi-Fi reliability also received mixed feedback: 48% were very satisfied, 33% fairly satisfied and 19% not satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both visuals and provide a clear overview, identifying full-time undergraduates as the largest user group and academic staff as the smallest. Your satisfaction overview also correctly highlights staff helpfulness as the strongest result and journal availability as the area with the most dissatisfaction. The figures you report are accurate, and you make relevant comparisons across the categories. This is a well-focused summary with the main features selected and supported. To make the account more fully developed, clarify that the table reports percentages of users’ satisfaction rather than simply “how many people,” and make the comparison between journals and Wi-Fi more explicit, since their dissatisfaction figures are close (20% and 19%).

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised effectively into an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the chart and table. This gives the reader a clear progression from the main patterns to supporting figures. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “Moreover,” and “By comparison” help signal relationships, and the information within each paragraph is generally easy to follow. Some transitions are slightly awkward or unnecessary: “subsequently” does not clearly describe the relationship between user groups, and “whereas” after a semicolon is not smoothly integrated. You could improve cohesion by using simpler, more precise links and by grouping the satisfaction results into clear comparisons, such as the two strongest ratings followed by the areas with greater dissatisfaction.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing proportions and survey results, including “accounted for,” “represented,” “favourable feedback,” and “expressing dissatisfaction.” These choices make the data understandable, and the response includes some useful variation rather than repeating one reporting verb throughout. However, several collocations and word forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the helpfulness staff,” “around 8% occupied by distance learning users,” and “only 7% contained by academic staff.” “Types of library users” is also more precise than “types” only if followed by a clear description of the groups. Check spelling as well: “undregraduate” should be “undergraduate.” More natural reporting phrases would improve precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a clear overview sentence and clauses introduced by “while” and “with.” Most of the data remains understandable, and several sentences are grammatically controlled, such as “Library opening hours also received favourable feedback, with 65% very satisfied and 35% fairly satisfied.” Some errors remain in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “full-time undergraduate experienced the highest proportion” needs a plural or a more suitable noun phrase, and “academic staff is the least” has an awkward singular verb and incomplete comparison. The constructions “around 8% occupied by…” and “only 7% contained by…” also lack a clear grammatical subject. Review subject–verb agreement and ensure each sentence states who or what the percentage describes.
